Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics

Many drivers in California aren’t aware that single-vehicle collisions are among the deadliest on the road.

By the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) estimate, 62% of all fatal car accidents in California are caused by one vehicle. In California, single-vehicle collisions are all too common, so drivers must be aware of the numerous factors that contribute to their likelihood.

A wide range of factors can cause a single-vehicle accident. A run-off-the-road accident occurs when a driver loses control while speeding or making sharp turns on a wet or slick road. Large branches and other objects may become roadside debris as a result of collisions with moving vehicles.

Even if a deer ran out in front of your car and caused an accident, your insurance policy’s comprehensive coverage is likely to limit your compensation.
