[04-30-2022] 41-Year-Old Man Killed in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash on State Route 79A 41-year-old Menifee man was killed in a hit-and-run crash in the unincorporated community of Winchester on Saturday, April 30, 2022.

The California Highway Patrol responded at 10:30 p.m. to State Route 79 just south of Scott Road.

CHP Officer Mike Lassig reports that the pedestrian had been struck by a passing vehicle while walking in the northbound traffic lane.

AMR medics declared the victim dead on the spot.

Officers on the scene discovered broken car parts and discovered they were looking for a 2016 Toyota Rav 4.

The car driver, a 71-year-old Temecula man, was later found in Hemet thanks to investigative leads.

The driver was interrogated and showed no signs of being intoxicated.

The driver, however, is facing felony hit-and-run charges, according to Lassig.
