[05-01-2023] Two People Injured After Hit-and-Run Vehicle Crashed Into Apartment Complex in Santa AnaTwo people were injured after a hit-and-run accident in Santa Ana on Monday night, May 1, 2023.

According to the Santa Ana Police Department, the minivan crashed into Vista del Rio apartments near the 1500 block of Memory Lane at around 10:20 p.m.

When authorities responded to the scene, they discovered a female resident was trapped inside. The Orange County Fire Authority freed the woman and transported her to a nearby hospital in a critical but stable condition. She was reportedly sitting on a couch when the vehicle plowed into her.

At the scene, medical personnel also assessed a second female victim and transported her to the hospital for medical attention. Although her condition is unknown, footage from the scene showed that she was awake and conscious.

After the collision, the driver fled the scene. A preliminary investigation revealed that before the minivan crashed into the first-floor apartment, the driver drove south through the apartment complex’s parking lot and collided with several fixed objects.
Lamar M., whose mother resides in the apartment complex, claimed to have been standing in the parking lot when he witnessed the fast-moving car collide with the building. The vehicle just kept going, according to Moorer. He also claimed that he attempted to free the victim trapped in the debris but was unsuccessful.

According to residents, the complex is designed for people with disabilities and special needs.

There was no further information regarding the factors that led to the collision. The authorities are still investigating the crash and are searching for the suspect.
