One person was killed while five others were injured following an apartment fire in Mountain View on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.
The incident transpired at approximately 1:00 p.m. at an apartment building located at 333 Escuela Avenue in Mountain View.
9-1-1 received a call from a concerned citizen about smoke coming inside the building. They later found the apartment’s second floor on fire.
The fire reportedly spread into the main hallway, which resulted in 18 units becoming uninhabitable. At least 50 people were displaced following the fire.
One victim was fatally injured and taken to an area hospital but later succumbed to injuries. Four other people were treated at the scene for their injuries.
A canine bit an officer he was trying to rescue was also injured and had to receive treatment.
The estimated cost of the fire’s damage was around $700,000. Local authorities are further investigating the accident.
