Only a few industries and employment conditions pose a significant risk to workers, but many others are safe enough. Construction, manufacturing, agriculture, and transportation workers are the most at risk of being hurt.

According to OSHA’s estimates, more than 4,500 American workers are killed or seriously injured on the job each year.

In November 2020, more than two-thirds of American workers were injured on the job, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This number has not changed since 2018.

Workers’ compensation claims have decreased, but occupational deaths have remained high: The number of people killed in work-related accidents rose by 2% in 2018 to 5,333. Death rates have been steadily rising since 2010.

The number of people who died in workplace accidents rose by 2% this year. There were 5,333 people killed on the road in 2019. Falls, trips, and slips accounted for 16.5 percent of all fatalities. 39.8% of the people who died were killed in car accidents.

The most common causes of death at work are motor vehicle collisions, objects falling or moving, or homicide. In the workplace, falls and overexertion from lifting and moving heavy objects are the most common causes of non-fatal injuries.
