According to Police Officer Ryan Railsback, the collision occurred Friday night at Wells Avenue in Riverside.
The rider was found unresponsive in the roadway with major injuries sustained in the fall from the horse by responding officers.
The unidentified man was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Railsback said the SUV was driving east on Wells Avenue when the horse walked out in front of it. He claimed that the SUV wasn’t thought to be going very fast.
