Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics
Some of California’s most dangerous types of car accidents are single-vehicle collisions, but many drivers are unaware of this fact.
Sixty-two percent of all fatal car accidents in California involve only one vehicle, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Since California has the most single-vehicle accidents, drivers need to be aware of the various factors at play.
A single-vehicle collision can be caused by a wide range of factors. On wet, slippery roads, a run-off-the-road collision occurs when the driver loses control of their vehicle while speeding or making sharp turns. It is possible to find debris on the road, such as a large branch or an object that fell from the back of a truck.
An accident resulting from a deer jumping in front of your car is likely to limit your compensation under your insurance policy’s comprehensive coverage plan, even if the deer was not your or another driver’s fault.
San Francisco County Car Accident Lawyers
Because of their injuries, many people involved in car accidents are unable to return to work or school. When someone dies as a result of the negligence of another driver, that person is still held accountable for their actions. The surviving family members of the victim can file wrongful death lawsuits against the driver who was negligent and, as a result, caused the victim’s death (or legal heirs).
This process is extremely difficult for them to go through. Victims must testify about their losses in front of strangers in depositions and trials. One’s mental health can take a significant toll on one’s ability to get a case settled, which can take months or even years.
It is critical to hold negligent drivers accountable if they cause an accident. Accountability is critical in cases where negligence results in an excessive death toll. For grieving families, wrongful death lawsuits can be emotionally challenging but can also provide a sense of closure. This is good news for everyone who travels on the state’s highways.
