According to investigators, 31-year-old Gonitz of San Jose was driving north when he crossed the double yellow lines. As a result, Gonitz collided with another vehicle, which was being driven by a 69-year-old woman who died at the scene.

Meanwhile, the impact caused minor injuries to Gonitz and her passenger, 32-year-old Ramirez of San Jose.

Officials in Monterey County are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.

There is still an active investigation going on.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 69-year-old Salinas woman was killed, and two others were injured in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 1 on Saturday, May 7.

The fatal crash occurred just before 5:00 p.m. on Highway 1 north of Portero Road.

According to the preliminary investigation, the driver of a 2019 Mazda 6 was traveling northbound on Highway 1 when he accidentally entered the southbound lane. The Mazda and a 2005 Toyota Corolla collided at that point.

A 2001 Ford F250 parked on the west median of Highway 1 was hit by debris from the crash.

According to CHP, the two Mazda occupants suffered minor injuries, but the driver of the Toyota Corolla died at the scene from his injuries.

Drugs and alcohol are not currently being considered as contributing factors in this accident.

Although no arrests have been made, the CHP stated that the crash is still being investigated.
