Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics

Some of California’s most dangerous motor vehicle accidents are single-vehicle accidents, but many drivers are unaware of this.

Sixty-two percent of all fatal car accidents in California involve only one vehicle, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). When it comes to California single-vehicle accidents, drivers must be aware of the various contributing factors.

A single-vehicle collision can occur for a variety of reasons. It is common for a single-car accident to occur if the driver is speeding or making sharp turns on a wet or slippery road and loses control. The road may also be littered with debris, such as a large branch or something that fell off a truck.

An accident resulting from a deer jumping in front of your car is likely to limit your compensation under your insurance policy’s comprehensive coverage plan, even if the deer was not your or another driver’s fault.

Madera County Car Accident Lawyers

Because of their injuries, many car accident victims are unable to return to work or school. Even if a victim dies as a result of a negligent driver’s actions, that person is still held accountable. Victim’s family members can file wrongful death lawsuits against the negligent driver who caused their loved one’s death (or legal heirs).

It’s difficult for them to go through the motions of grieving and reliving their experiences. Depositions and trials force victims to testify about their losses in front of strangers. Dealing with the stress of a lengthy legal battle can have a negative impact on one’s mental health.

It’s critical to hold reckless drivers accountable when they cause an accident. Accountability is critical in cases where negligence has resulted in an unnecessarily high death toll. For grieving families, filing a wrongful death claim can be draining, but it can also bring some solace. This is a win-win situation for everyone on California’s roads.
