  1. Pedestrian accidents can be traumatic and life-changing events, often resulting in serious injuries or even fatalities. Unfortunately, pedestrian accidents are too common, particularly in busy cities and urban areas where foot traffic and vehicles share the road. If you or someone you know has been involved in a pedestrian accident, it is essential to understand your legal rights and options. There are several steps you should take:
  2. Seek medical attention immediately: Your health and safety should be your top priority, so seek medical help even if you feel fine. Some injuries may not be apparent right away, and it is important to have a medical professional evaluate you.
  3. Contact law enforcement: Call 911 and report the accident to the police. Please provide them with as much information as possible, including the accident’s location and any witnesses’ contact information.
  4. Document the accident: Take photos or videos of the accident scene, including any damage to your property or injuries sustained. This can be valuable evidence for your case.
  5. Contact a pedestrian accident lawyer: An experienced pedestrian accident lawyer can help you understand your legal rights and options and work to secure the compensation you deserve for your injuries and damages.

Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics

According to data from the Governors Highway Safety Association, there was a 14% decrease in fatalities from traffic accidents between 2007 and 2016. However, pedestrian deaths increased by 27% during the same period. Based on this data, it is likely that the number of pedestrians injured or killed by cars will continue to rise.

In 2012, California had a disproportionately high number of pedestrian deaths and severe injuries, with 809 fatalities and 14,000 injuries resulting from automobile accidents. This trend is concerning and requires attention.

In 2016, more than 6,000 people died in traffic accidents in the United States, with an average of 88 lives lost per minute. Approximately 137,000 injured individuals were taken to hospitals by ambulance the following year. These statistics illustrate the gravity of the issue and the urgent need for action to prevent future accidents and fatalities.
