[05-08-2023] Metrolink Train in Irvine Struck and Killed 64-Year-Old ManA 64-year-old man from South Carolina died after being struck by a Metrolink train in Irvine on Monday morning, May 8, 2023.

According to the Irvine Police Department, the incident occurred on the Metrolink between Irvine and Tustin.

The report said the man was near the tracks and attempted to walk away but could not avoid the train. No passengers were injured, and authorities are not pursuing charges.

At around 7:30 a.m., Metrolink posted a tweet regarding the event, and the spokesperson confirmed that the tracks were reopened two hours afterward.

According to MetroLink, the collision stopped Orange County Line 607 to Los Angeles and forced the cancellation of Orange County Line 682 to Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo. As a result of the closed track, Orange County Line 687 to Los Angeles was set to start in Tustin. Passengers on affected lines were given Uber vouchers worth up to $50.
