According to The California Highway Patrol, a 28-year-old pedestrian woman was fatally struck in Castaic, Monday May 9, 2022.
According to the authorities the fatal collision occurred at 2:20 a.m. on the northbound 5 Freeway near Lake Hughes Road in Castaic.
A white International Navistar was traveling northbound on I-5 Golden State Freeway, north of Lake Hughes Road, at approximately 55 mph when a female pedestrian ran across traffic lanes and was struck, according to Officer Josh Greengard of the California Highway Patrol.
Hailey S., 28, of Castaic, was identified as the woman.
According to CHP officials, the vehicle collided with Smither within traffic lanes, propelling the victim several feet before coming to a stop.
Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department pronounced Smither dead on arrival.
The incident is still being investigated, and no cause of death has been made public.
