T-Bone Crash Statistics
A T-Bone collision happens when one vehicle’s irresponsible driver collides with the side of another vehicle at a right angle, resulting in a violent and often high-speed broadside impact. Almost of T-Bone accidents occur at intersections.
Each year, around 8,000 people are killed in T-bone incidents in the United States, with many thousands more suffering serious injuries, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
A broadside collision is more dangerous than a head-on or rear-ends collision. More than half of all fatal car accidents are caused by T-bone collisions.
T-bone collisions are common when the driver at fault fails to yield or give way to other vehicles. Side-impact collisions, for example, at an intersection or a four-way stop, are commonly caused by the at-fault driver’s failure to obey traffic signals or stop signs.
A T-bone collision can also be caused by power outages, traffic light failures, and faulty stoplights.
