Two people were killed after a pursuit led to a motorcycle vs. vehicle collision in Old Fig Garden, Fresno County, in the early hours of Saturday, May 11, 2024.
According to the Freno Police Department, the deadly incident happened at around 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Ashlan Avenue and Maroa Avenue.
FPD stated that Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies tried to pull over a motorcyclist for recklessly driving around the area. The rider sped up to avoid them instead, resulting in a police pursuit. The chase only came to an end when the rider crashed into an innocent sedan at the intersection at a high rate of speed.
Police confirmed that both the motorcyclist and the sedan driver were killed as a result of the crash. The deceased were later identified as 25-year-old James B., the rider, and 60-year-old Juan J., the driver. Both of them were from Fresno, said the police.
The intersection was blocked off for several hours as a precaution.
Additional information was not immediately available. The authorities are still investigating and talking to witnesses.
