What Should You Do After A Multi-Vehicle Collision?

Being involved in a car accident is a scary experience that may leave you unsure what to do next. However, protecting your safety and legal rights after a collision is critical. Following these steps after an accident will help you stay calm, gather necessary information, and seek compensation for your injuries. What you should do is as follows.

  • Check your body for injuries and assess the condition of the other people involved.
  • If possible, move disabled vehicles to the side of the road to ensure your safety. Activating your emergency flashers will help you avoid further collisions. Find a safe place to wait for the authorities.
  • Dial 911 to report your accident. Authorities can document the incident by documenting it, gathering details, and compiling them into an official report.
  • Exchange essential information on the other driver(s) involved. Photograph vehicles, license plates, injuries, damages, and other pertinent information.
  • Do not admit fault, not even the authorities. Stick to the facts when recounting the events in the collision.
  • Seek medical attention right away. Contact your healthcare provider or visit your local hospital. Internal injuries that do not show symptoms can be detected through tests and scans.
  • Notify your insurance company. Most insurance companies have deadlines for reporting accidents.
  • Contact the claims adjuster. Do not record statements or accept settlement offers before consulting an attorney.
  • Organize documents related to the accident, such as the police report, medical bills, information about the other driver, and injury treatment plans.
