According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), three people were killed, and three others are recovering from injuries after a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 12 Friday, May 13, 2022.
The fatal collision occurred at 2:19 p.m. on State Route 12 just east of Peatland Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Hyundai Elantra was following a Honda Pilot carrying three passengers eastbound on State Route 12 just east of Peatland Road.
According to officials, a Toyota Camry was traveling west on the highway just east of Peatland Road.
According to the CHP, the Hyundai driver began to veer into the dirt shoulder of the highway, parallel to a ditch, while driving at 100 mph. After losing control of her vehicle, the Hyundai driver swerved back into the eastbound lane and collided with the Honda Pilot.
According to authorities, the force of the collision pushed both cars into the westbound lane, where they collided with a Toyota Camry.
According to CHP investigators, the Hyundai and Honda overturned into a water-filled ditch while the Toyota remained disabled in the westbound lane.
The driver of the Hyundai, a 28-year-old woman from Oakland, died along with two Honda passengers, two men from Stockton, ages 25 and 30.
According to the CHP, the Honda’s driver and another passenger were injured in the collision.
The Toyota’s driver was also taken to a local hospital with injuries sustained in the collision.
The CHP says they don’t know if alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
