Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics
Some of California’s most dangerous motor vehicle accidents are single-vehicle accidents, but many drivers are unaware of this.
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that 62% of fatal California car accidents involve a single vehicle. Drivers in California, where single-vehicle accidents are common, need to be aware of the various risk factors.
A single-vehicle collision can be caused by a wide range of factors. A run-off-the-road accident occurs when a driver loses control while speeding or making sharp turns on a wet, slippery road. It is possible to find debris on the road, such as a large branch or an object that fell from the back of a truck.
An uninsured motorist accident caused by, say, a deer jumping in front of your car will have fewer resources available to you because of the comprehensive insurance coverage provided by your policy.
Stanislaus County Car Accident Lawyers
Many car accident victims are unable to return to work or school because of their injuries. Negligent drivers are not exonerated from responsibility even if a victim dies as a result of their actions. Any of the deceased victim’s surviving family members can file a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver who caused their death as a result of their carelessness (or legal heirs).
This process is extremely difficult for them to go through. Depositions and trials force victims to testify about their losses in front of strangers. Dealing with the stress of a lengthy legal battle can have a negative impact on one’s mental health.
A negligent driver should be held accountable if they cause an accident. Accountability is critical in cases where negligence has resulted in an unnecessarily high death toll. For grieving families, wrongful death lawsuits can be emotionally challenging but can also provide a sense of closure. This is good news for everyone who drives in California.
