[05-15-2023] One Person Killed, Two Others Hospitalized Following Multi-Vehicle Collision on Highway 101One person was killed, and two others were hospitalized following a multi-vehicle collision in Ventura County on Monday morning, May 15, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Highway 101 north, south of San Miguelito, was temporarily closed for several hours after a fatal five-car collision around 9:30 a.m.

The driver of a 2012 Ford F-550 collided with the rear of a 2002 Toyota Tacoma, causing the Tacoma to collide with the back of a Tesla. The Tesla crashed into the Honda HR-V, and the Honda HR-V collided with the Honda Accord, said CHP Ventura.

One car caught fire, but the CHP collision report does not specify which vehicle was engulfed in flames.

A 50-year-old driver of the Tacoma, identified as Jose Z., was declared dead at the scene, while two others were transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

No further information was released, and anyone who witnessed or has information about the crash is asked to contact the authorities.
