Big Rig Accident Statistics

A truck accident can cause serious injuries or even death. It’s primarily due to the size of semi-trucks compared to other vehicles on the road.

Semi-trucks are critical to the economy of the country. Every year, America’s trucking industry transports billions of dollars in goods. Sadly, millions of massive vehicles on the road endanger other motorists.

Since 2009, the number of people killed in collisions with large commercial trucks has increased by 30%. According to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System, 4,102 people died on the road in 2017 due to big rigs (FARS).

Several factors can contribute to a truck accident, including driver error, tire blowouts, and mechanical failure.

Trucks take up most of their assigned driving lane due to their size. Driving between them can be constricting. While you should always drive in your lane, sandwiching your vehicle between two massive semi-trucks may leave you vulnerable and with little room to react.
