Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics
Many drivers are unaware that single-vehicle collisions are among California’s most dangerous types of car accidents.
Single-vehicle accidents account for 62% of all fatal car accidents in California, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) (NHTSA). Drivers in California must be aware of the various factors involved in the high number of single-vehicle accidents.
A single-vehicle collision can be caused by a number of things. A run-off-the-road collision occurs when a driver loses control of their vehicle while speeding or making sharp turns on a wet, slick road. Debris, like a large branch or something that fell from the back of a truck, can be found on the road.
Your comprehensive coverage plan will likely limit your recovery in a single-car accident caused by something that isn’t your or another driver’s fault, such as a deer jumping in front of your vehicle.
Stanislaus County Car Accident Lawyers
Due to their injuries, many car accident victims cannot return to work or school. The death of a victim does not absolve a reckless driver’s responsibility. Survivors of the victim may file wrongful death lawsuits against the negligent driver and cause the victim’s death (or legal heirs).
It is painful for them to relive their losses and grief. Victims must testify about their losses in front of strangers in depositions and trials. The resolution of a case can take months, if not years, and can significantly impact one’s mental health.
It is critical to hold a negligent driver accountable if they cause an accident. Accountability is critical when negligence results in an unnecessarily high death toll. For grieving families, wrongful death claims can be emotionally draining, but they can also provide closure. This will benefit everyone who drives in California.
