According to Santa Ana police, several children were taken to the hospital after being struck by a car that drove onto the sidewalk in Santa Ana on Monday, May 23.

Following the collision, investigators discovered explosives inside the suspect’s vehicle.

Officials say three children were taken to the hospital in stable condition. They’re all expected to recover completely.

Investigators say the driver of the car, identified as 26-year-old Jason G. of Valencia by Santa Ana police, trespassed into Taft Elementary School shortly before the collision, asking to use the restroom while carrying a backpack, and was escorted off-campus.

According to school staff, Guzman did not seem well and was talking to himself. He appeared to be under the influence of drugs, they said.

Officials say Guzman then drove away in a red car down Keller Avenue, striking the three children on the sidewalk.

The red vehicle was captured on surveillance video from a nearby home just before Guzman allegedly ran down the children.

According to a witness, he noticed two children on the ground. One was standing in the middle of the road.

The witness approached them to tend to them and noticed a man walking toward them with a knife in his hand. Fortunately, the man turned away and returned to his car.

According to the officials, Guzman was apprehended by police shortly after stabbing himself in the stomach.

A resident who lives near the crash site said that she heard a loud crash and that when neighbors came out to see what was inside the suspect’s car, they were shocked.

After colliding with the children, the vehicle continued rolling and collided with another vehicle.

According to Sgt. Maria Lopez of the Santa Ana Police Department, the vehicle seemed to be parked.

The man continued until he came to a complete stop, at which point our officers approached him and the vehicle.

According to police, the suspect was taken by ambulance to a local hospital in unknown condition after self-inflicting a knife wound.

According to officials, officers discovered a suspicious incendiary device while searching the suspect’s car, and the Orange County bomb squad was called in to help.

According to the Santa Ana Police Department, three more incendiary devices were discovered.

Police say they have no idea what the 26-year-old Valencia resident was up to in Santa Ana.

In this ongoing investigation, Santa Ana police are collaborating with the Santa Ana Unified School District Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
