DUI Crash Statistics
Every day, approximately 30 Americans are killed due to drunk driving. Drunk driving is responsible for around 29 percent of all motor vehicle accident deaths in the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 60% of these drivers have BACs of.08 or higher.
Drunk and drugged driving are severe concerns in the United States, and California is no exception. More than 10% of the 10,874 people who died in the United States in 2017 due to drunk driving were killed in California.
In California, it is prohibited to operate a motor vehicle while under alcohol or narcotics. Unfortunately, this does not deter some individuals from driving while impaired. In 2017, 123,548 people were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in California alone.
If you ever find yourself on the road with a drunk driver, you can protect yourself by not driving at night when most people are drinking and paying close attention to how other drivers behave around you.
