[05-24-2022] Alameda County, CA - CHP Officer Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash in BerkeleyAccording to the agency, a California Highway Patrol officer suffered major injuries and was still recovering in a hospital following a suspected DUI crash involving another driver on Tuesday, May 24, 2022.

The crash occurred around 12:45 a.m. on Interstate 80 in Berkeley.

According to CHP spokesman Officer David Arias, officers arrested a 21-year-old Vacaville man on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and hit-and-run. The suspect was unharmed in the collision.

Two CHP officers were assisting a disabled vehicle eastbound just west of University Avenue when a Dodge Ram traveling in the far right lane sideswiped a patrol vehicle, according to the agency.

According to the CHP, the Ram driver struck an officer who was standing outside the vehicle.

The second officer in the patrol vehicle was unharmed.

Officers later discovered the Dodge on the right shoulder of I-80 near the Pinole Valley Road exit.

According to the CHP, officers discovered the driver asleep in the driver’s seat and arrested him.

The crash remains under investigation.
