Two-Vehicle Crash Statistics
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 3,600 people lost their lives, and 277,000 were injured in traffic collisions in California alone.
The streets of Fresno are unique. Their grid-like structure results in a compass-like pattern. Quadrants categorize the streets. State Highway 180, Sequoia-Kings Canyon Freeway, runs east-west. From north to south, there lies the 41 Yosemite Freeway.
There has been a concerning increase in car accidents in Fresno County. Residents and workers in Fresno should be concerned about the approximately 11,000 car accidents between 2003 and 2016. According to the NHTSA, Fresno car accidents claimed the lives of 61 people in 2017.
Car accidents are also more likely to occur at intersections. This is because there are changes in traffic controls and traffic flow. There is also generally more traffic, and this added confusion can make some drivers more likely to cause a collision.
Fresno drivers should slow down, pay attention, and use extra caution when approaching an intersection. Be sure to watch for other drivers (who may be confused) until you have made it safely through the entire intersection.
Keeping calm and attending to the medical needs of those involved in an accident is critical if you have been in a car accident. If your condition permits, take your vehicle out of traffic to the nearest location of safety. Once you’re safe, contact the Station of California Highway Patrol or the police department where your incident occurred.
Fresno County Car Acccident Lawyers
After an accident, all drivers should call their insurance companies to file a claim. The insurance companies will then conduct investigations to determine who was at fault for causing the accident. This almost always starts with a call to each involved driver.
The insurance company will ask each driver to tell their side of the story. While this seems simple, the truth is that insurance companies are looking for an excuse to point the blame at someone else.
An aggressive personal injury lawyer can protect your legal right to compensation. They will prove who was at fault. They will also confirm the amount of money it will take to fairly compensate you for your injuries. So if the other driver’s insurance company calls to discuss the accident, tell them to talk to your lawyer.
