Big Rig Accident Statistics

Every day, semi-trucks and tractor-trailers cause numerous accidents around the country. Because these vehicles are so huge, generally weighing up to 30 times that of a car, a collision with one can be disastrous.

Drivers and passengers inside smaller vehicles always suffer the worse in big rig accidents. Big rigs are very difficult to manage and drive. Truck drivers must take reasonable precautions to avoid injuring people when driving down the roadway.

The number of people killed in big rig vehicles has increased by 30% since 2009. According to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), 4,102 people died on the road due to big rigs in 2017.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), 6,897 persons were injured, and 327 died in truck incidents in 2017.

Truck accidents are caused by various factors, including the driver’s inability to control the truck, tire blowouts, and vehicle failure, to name a few. The driver could also be tired or intoxicated.
