[05-27-2023] One Woman Killed, Elderly Injured After Two-Vehicle Collision Near WheatlandA 49-year-old female motorist was killed, and an 88-year-old man, identified as Jack C., was injured after a two-vehicle collision near Wheatland on Saturday morning, May 27, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the vehicles crashed shortly before 8:00 a.m. on Forty Mile Road, south of Hoffman Plumas Road.

The northbound Mazda 6 sedan reportedly made an “unsafe left turn” into a southbound lane, causing the collision with the Dodge Ram 3500. The Mazda driver was said to have driven at an unknown speed, whereas the elderly driver of the Ram traveled at about 55 mph.

The Mazda driver was proclaimed dead at the scene, and Cogburn, a Brownsville resident, suffered severe injuries, including a broken leg.

It was not immediately known whether alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash. The authorities are still investigating the crash.
