[05-27-2025] San Bernardino County, CA – Female Pedestrian Killed in Suspected DUI Crash in Victorville

A female pedestrian succumbed to her injuries after being struck by a suspected DUI driver in Victorville on Tuesday night, May 27, 2025.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 8:57 p.m. near Reno Loop Road and Sorrel Way in the Brentwood community.

Deputies from the Victorville Police Station, along with firefighters and paramedics, responded to the scene and found that a 2001 gold Chevrolet Suburban had struck a woman.

Authorities reported that the SUV sustained significant front-end damage, including dents to the driver’s side fender and bumper. Despite emergency life-saving efforts, the unidentified pedestrian was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The driver, identified as 50-year-old George T. of Barstow, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office is working to confirm the identity of the deceased woman.

In 2020, alcohol-impaired driving caused 11,654 traffic fatalities, accounting for 30% of all traffic-related deaths in the U.S. This was a 14.3% increase from 2019, which saw 10,196 DUI-related fatalities. On average, one person was killed every 45 minutes in a drunk driving crash.

The highest percentages of impaired drivers involved in fatal crashes were in the 21-24 and 25-34 age groups, each making up 26% of the total. Motorcyclists had the highest rate of alcohol impairment in fatal accidents at 27%, followed by passenger car drivers at 23%, light truck drivers at 19%, and large truck drivers at 3%.

Out of 1,093 children aged 14 and under who died in traffic accidents, 21% (229 deaths) were linked to alcohol-related crashes. Additionally, 67% of all DUI fatalities involved drivers with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.15 g/dL or higher, nearly double the legal limit.
