Steps To Take After a Car Accident In Los Angeles, CA

Being involved in a car accident can be overwhelming. The steps you take immediately after the accident can impact your health, your insurance claim, and your legal rights. Here’s what you should do:

  1. If you’re not seriously injured, move your car out of traffic to avoid further danger. Turn on your hazard lights to warn other drivers.
  2. Call 911 to report the accident and ask for medical help. Even if injuries seem minor, it’s important for the police to document the scene and for paramedics to check you.
  3. Stay at the scene and remain calm. Avoid arguing with other drivers and wait for the authorities to arrive.
  4. Exchange names, contact information, insurance details, driver’s license numbers, and vehicle registration with the other driver(s).
  5. Take photos of the scene, including vehicle damage, injuries, road conditions, and any contributing hazards. If there are witnesses, get their contact information.
  6. Contact your insurance company and report the accident as soon as possible. Stick to the facts when talking to them and avoid admitting fault.
  7. Even if you feel fine, see a doctor. Some injuries may not show up right away, and having a medical evaluation is important for your health and your claim.
  8. If the accident caused serious injuries, lost wages, or property damage, consider speaking with a car accident lawyer. They can explain your legal options and help with insurance matters.
