[05-30-2022] Mendocino County, CA – Two People Seriously Injured in Plane Crash Near Willits

According to authorities, a pilot and passenger were injured after a small plane crashed and burned near a private landing strip in Northern California on Monday, May 30, 2022.

According to a press release from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. near Willits.

According to a witness, the pilot and passenger suffered serious injuries and were taken to a local hospital by a pilot’s family member.

They were then transported to a hospital outside of the county for further treatment.

The pilot has only been identified as a 33-year-old Willits resident. The passenger was only identified as 26 years old.

The fire, which was put out by Cal Fire, nearly completely destroyed the plane.

The make and model of the aircraft were unknown.

The cause of the crash was unknown at the time, and the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Aviation Administration was also notified of the crash.
