Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident Statistics

A car accident caused by another driver’s carelessness is the worst thing that can happen to you. If the other driver does not pull over and take responsibility for the collision, things will only get worse.

The number of hit-and-run accidents is on the rise. In 2016, 2,049 people lost their lives as a result of hit-and-run collisions in the United States. As many as 680,000 hit-and-runs are reported in the United States every year. One pedestrian is killed by a car every week in the United States.

If a negligent motorist causes an accident that harms a pedestrian, the victim has no recourse.

To a large extent, what causes someone to flee the scene of an accident is subjective. People who are more vulnerable are more likely to be involved in a car accident. These drivers are more likely to flee the scene of an accident if they have been drinking than to face the consequences of their behavior.
