Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash Statistics

In the United States, the most common way people get hurt is in car accidents. Every year, nearly two million people are hurt in car accidents.

There are more than 200,000 of them just in California. Riverside County has more than 2 million people and is the fourth most populated area in the state. It is also one of the most dangerous places to drive.

In 2017, 2,119 people were hurt or killed in car accidents in Riverside alone. These accidents happened on surface streets like Jurupa Ave., Wells Ave., and Pierce St., and more often on nearby highways like the 91, 215, and the 60.

Most of these tragedies are even worse because they could have been prevented. Distracted driving causes almost 80% of all car accidents.

Following defensive driving techniques is the best way to avoid fatal accidents. After the light turns green, wait a moment to make sure no one else is coming through the intersection. Watch out for drivers who are going too fast to get through a yellow light at an intersection. When you get close to a yellow light, be careful instead of taking chances.
