Pedestrian Accident Statistics
A greater number of pedestrians and motorcycle riders are hurt or killed as a result of collisions with moving vehicles. In the event of an accident, they are not adequately protected.
Many people have been fatally or severely injured while walking in recent years. Although traffic-related deaths decreased by 14 percent between 2007 and 2016, more people were killed while walking than driving.
In the United States, 5,977 pedestrians were killed in 2017. One person dies every 88 minutes, according to this estimate. In 2017, more than 137,000 non-fatal pedestrian injuries were treated in emergency rooms.
Pedestrian fatalities and serious injuries are more common in California than in any other state. Last year, there were 893 people killed and 14,000 injured while walking in California.
In most cases, drivers’ negligence is to blame for pedestrian accidents, and this includes things like speeding and failing to yield the right of way. In cases like these, it’s critical to have the counsel of an experienced lawyer.
