Steps To Take After A Pedestrian Accident
Being involved in a pedestrian accident can be overwhelming, but taking the right steps afterward is key to protecting your health and legal rights. Our accident lawyers recommend the following actions after a pedestrian incident:
- Seek medical attention as soon as possible, even if you think you are not injured. Some injuries may not show up immediately, and a medical record is important for your health and any future claims.
- Take clear, detailed photos of your injuries, the location of the accident, and any damage to your belongings or nearby objects. This evidence could be vital to your claim.
- Write down everything you remember about the accident, including the time, location, weather, and how the incident occurred. A detailed account helps preserve accurate information for later use.
- Collect contact information from any witnesses. Their statements can provide valuable support for your case.
- Obtain a copy of the police report or the report number from the responding officers. This official document can offer crucial details about the accident and the investigation.
- Avoid discussing the accident on social media or with insurance adjusters before speaking to a lawyer. Your statements could affect the outcome of your case.

Pedestrian Accident Statistics
Pedestrian safety is an important issue that affects everyone, as all individuals are pedestrians at some point in their daily lives. Despite ongoing efforts to improve road safety, pedestrian injuries and fatalities remain a major concern. In 2023, there were 7,314 pedestrian deaths and over 68,000 pedestrian injuries reported in the United States. These numbers reflect the dangers pedestrians face daily, whether crossing streets, walking on sidewalks, or navigating busy intersections.
Understanding the factors that contribute to these incidents is essential in addressing pedestrian safety. Distracted driving, speeding, inadequate crosswalks, and poor road design are just a few of the elements that increase the risks for pedestrians. To reduce these preventable accidents, it is critical to implement better urban planning, enforce stricter traffic laws, and raise awareness about pedestrian safety among both drivers and pedestrians.
