[06-10-2025] Nevada County, CA – Driver Hospitalized With Major Injuries After Fiery Crash With Big Rig on Highway 49

A driver was hospitalized with major injuries after a collision with a big rig in Grass Valley on Tuesday afternoon, June 10, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol Grass Valley division, the crash occurred around 2:15 p.m. on the Golden Center Freeway (Highway 49) near Dorsey Drive and resulted in the car catching fire. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene.

The car was lodged beneath the rear of the big rig’s trailer, with significant front-end damage and fire damage to both vehicles.

Officials said the car driver, who was alert, was able to exit the burning vehicle on his own before being transported to the hospital with major injuries. The driver of the big rig was not injured.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
