[06-11-2023] Los Angeles County, CA – Child Rescued by Off-Duty Nurse After Two-Vehicle DUI Crash in Santa Clarita, One Person Injured

One person was injured, and a child was rescued after a two-vehicle collision involving a DUI driver on Canyon Country in Santa Clarita on Sunday morning, June 11, 2023.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station said the drunk driving incident occurred at the intersection of Jason Drive and Flynn Drive.

Based on the report, two vehicles were involved in the collision, resulting in one car colliding with a fire hydrant. This impact caused the back end of a white sedan to be lifted by the water rushing out of the hydrant.

Inside the car, a child was trapped, but a nearby off-duty nurse named Shawn S. courageously saved the child before the arrival of emergency responders. Spencer assisted the injured driver out of the vehicle and then used his instincts as a father to save the child from the passenger side.

Following the incident, the driver of the white sedan, a 26-year-old resident of Canyon Country, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. It remains uncertain if additional charges, such as child endangerment, will be filed.
