[06-15-2022] Contra Costa County, CA - One Person Killed, Eight Others Injured in Suspected DUI Crash on Byron HighwayThe California Highway Patrol said one passenger was killed and eight others were injured in a suspected DUI crash involving a car with nine occupants on the Byron Highway on Wednesday, June 15, 2022.

The crash occurred around 5:40 p.m. on the Byron Highway near Camino Diablo Road.

The person killed has yet to be identified by authorities.

According to the CHP, the other eight passengers in the Chevrolet Suburban suffered moderate injuries.

According to a statement from the CHP, the Acura sedan driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver reportedly suffered minor injuries.

It was unclear whether the CHP would pursue any additional charges against the driver.

According to the CHP, the Acura sedan was traveling south on the highway when it crossed the double-yellow lines into the northbound lane and collided with the Chevy.

Both cars slammed into telephone poles following the collision.
