According to the Selma Police, the incident occurred at approximately 11:15 pm near Highland and Floral Avenues.

Bethel and his family were crossing the road when a car struck him. After the collision, authorities reported that the driver, 20-year-old Amy R., fled the scene but was subsequently located in a nearby parking lot.

She was apprehended for committing a hit-and-run offense constituting a felony and was subsequently taken into custody.

Bethel was hospitalized with injuries to his leg and back, including a broken leg.

Investigators have determined that neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the collision.
