A street sweeper was severely injured and hospitalized after being struck by a hit-and-run pickup truck in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon, June 20, 2023.
The Los Angeles Police Department said the incident occurred at approximately 1:20 p.m. at the 7th Street Produce Market.
Based on the surveillance video footage released by the LAPD, the incident involves a pickup truck that collides with a street sweeper while exiting the 7th Street Produce Market. The footage shows the truck driver navigating through the parking lot and approaching the street sweeper near an exit.
While making a right turn, the driver runs over the victim’s foot, causing the man to fall. The driver briefly pauses but then flees towards Alameda Street, leaving the victim’s broom behind.
The victim, an employee of the “Business Improvement Districts,” was taken to the hospital with severe injuries.
A reward of up to $25,000 is offered to individuals who provide information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the suspect or a resolution through a civil compromise.
The suspect’s vehicle is described as a white 2018-2023 Chevrolet Silverado, possibly a Z71 model. It has distinctive features such as black rims, a bed liner, a sunroof, and tinted windows, and it is equipped with a tow hitch.
The victims’ identities have not been disclosed as authorities continue to gather information and apprehend the responsible driver.
