A 54-year-old worker was severely injured after an assault in a parking lot in Garden Grove early Tuesday morning, June 20, 2023.
According to the Garden Grove Police Department, the incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. in a parking lot at a shopping center near Westminster Avenue and Brookhurst Street.
The victim, named Carlos A., was paving the parking lot with his co-workers when they were approached by a group of men coming from Hay Karaoke. After asking them not to step on the wet asphalt, the workers were attacked by the group.
The assault left Ayala with severe brain injuries, including swelling, bleeding, and skull fractures. The victim’s daughter, Sara A., said her father is slowly recovering but suffers from severe memory loss. The condition of Ayala’s co-workers remains unknown.
Reports say that about 20 people were involved in the incident. The authorities are gathering surveillance footage and conducting an investigation.
The victim’s family has set up a GoFundMe page asking for assistance with their father’s medical expenses.
