A teen pedestrian suffered injuries after being struck by MTS Bus in Noway on Tuesday afternoon, June 20, 2023.
According to the Poway Fire Department, the crash occurred just before 1:00 p.m. in the Poway neighborhood across for Midland Elementary.
Authorities stated that a 60-year-old man driving an MTS bus crashed into four parked cars, trapping a teenager between a truck and a fence.
The victim’s father told officials that his son suffered head and leg injuries but would be alright. Officials said the tire traces indicated where the bus veered onto the sidewalk before destroying some vegetation and colliding with an electrical box.
As residents spoke with the bus driver, he disclosed that he had fallen asleep before the collision. A source verified to authorities that the bus driver involved in the accident had crossed the picket line and was driving during the strike. This strike disrupted service on South Bay and East County routes.
No further details were released regarding the crash, and it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
The investigation into the collision continues.
