[06-21-2022] Contra Costa County, CA – BART Train Derails Injuring Several People North of Pleasant Hill

According to the authorities, a BART train derailed and injured several people near David Avenue Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

According to Contra Costa Fire, the accident occurred at 6:27 p.m. the 10-car train derailed near Hastings Drive and David Avenue.

BART officials stated that the partial train derailment on Tuesday in Concord was initially determined to have been caused by heat, as high temperatures had caused a curve in the track.

A small number of passengers reported minor injuries, and about 50 passengers were safely evacuated, according to Con Fire.

Con Fire arrived on the scene to put out small fires.

According to a BART spokesperson, Contra Costa County bus numbers, 11 and 14 were made available between Pleasant Hill and Concord stations and accepted BART tickets as fare. This was because Pleasant Hill to Concord BART service had been disrupted.

BART representatives stated it would remain closed on Tuesday night between Pleasant Hill and Concord, but they expected it to reopen on Wednesday at the very least with single-tracking.

According to BART, crews were scheduled to work through the night to remove the train, cut out the damaged track, and replace it.
