Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident Statistics

One of the most frightening things that can happen to you is an accident caused by another driver’s carelessness. If the other driver refuses to stop and accept responsibility for the collision, things will only get worse.

There has been an increase in the number of hit-and-runs. 2,049 people lost their lives as a result of hit-and-run accidents in the United States in 2016. More than 680,000 hit-and-runs are reported to police in the United States each year. Every seven days in the United States, a pedestrian is struck and killed by a car.

Pedestrians have no control over an accident caused by a careless driver.

The reasons why someone leaves the scene of an accident are purely subjective. A car accident is more likely to happen to someone who is more vulnerable. An impaired driver is more likely to flee the scene of an accident rather than take responsibility for his or her actions.
