[06-24-2023] Tragedy Strikes as Wrong-Way Driver Suspected of DUI Killed 59-Year-Old Man in Rialto CrashA 59-year-old man identified as Gregory C. was killed after DUI two-vehicle collision in Rialto on Saturday evening, June 24, 2023.

The Rialto Police Department swiftly arrived at the scene in the 300 block of West Santa Ana Avenue at approximately 8:43 p.m.

According to the report, Saavedra-E.,48, had been driving his white Ford F-150 pickup truck westbound on Santa Ana Avenue from Willow Avenue when he veered into the eastbound lanes, resulting in a collision with Cruz, who was operating a white Chevrolet Lumina.

Emergency responders discovered that Cruz suffered from critical injuries. He was promptly transported to the hospital by the Rialto Fire Department. Unfortunately, he was later pronounced dead.

Escoto sustained minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital for treatment. In addition, he was suspected to be driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.

He was arrested and booked for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. His bail was set at $250,000.
