One person was killed, while two others were injured after a DUI car crash in Bakersfield on Sunday morning, June 25, 2023.
The Bakersfield Police Department was called to respond to the two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Panama Lane and Akers Road intersection at 3:15 a.m.
Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears that a female driver was traveling south on Akers Road when her vehicle collided with the other vehicle, which was also heading south. Subsequently, her car lost control and struck a tree.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a male driver who had sustained serious injuries. Unfortunately, he later succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as 54-year-old Humberto V.
The woman and her male passenger suffered moderate injuries and were transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Both were unidentified at this point.
Speed and alcohol are suspected to have played a role in the incident.
Akers Road, between Panama Lane and Cyclone Drive, was temporarily closed due to the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
