[06-30-2023] 1 Female Employee Hospitalized Following Hazardous Chemical Exposure at Vinland Hotel in SolvangA female Vinland Hotel employee was hospitalized after exposure to hazardous chemicals in Solvang on Friday afternoon, June 30, 2023.

According to Santa Barbara County Fire Department Capt. Scott S., the incident occurred in the Vinland Hotel & Lounge in the 1400 block of Mission Drive at around 4:20 p.m.

Personnel donning level-A hazmat suits found 2 gallons of a product containing phosphoric acid and chlorine creating a gas, a cause for concern. The chemicals were diluted and neutralized in the swimming pool.

The victim was brought to Santa Ynez Cottage Hospital for evaluation. There was no further information on the condition of the employee.

No information was released regarding the victim’s identity, pending an investigation.

The swimming pool was closed while the chemical levels were being monitored.
