Motorcycle Crash Statistics

Motorcyclists are not afforded the same level of protection as drivers of automobiles. In terms of speed and road conditions, they’re just like a car, but they don’t offer the same level of protection.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, around 11 percent of all road accidents in the United States are attributed to motorcycle riders. In 2018, there were 82,000 motorcycle-related injuries and 4,985 motorcycle-related fatalities.

This is not shocking, given that motorcyclists are 16 times more likely than passengers in enclosed vehicles to be injured or killed in a car accident.

Tragically, California is not a particularly safe state for motorcyclists. California is home to the nation’s largest number of legally registered motorcycles, with over 800,000 registered motorcycles. At least 15,527 people were injured and 541 killed on California’s roads in 2017 due to 16,505 motorcycle accidents.

Some drivers may struggle to spot motorbikes during the daytime due to low visibility. Wearing reflective clothing is a good way to draw the attention of other drivers on the highway.

Avoiding an accident is more important than making a fashion statement on the road, even if this doesn’t meet some people’s standards of style.
