Pedestrian Accident Statistics

Driving-related injuries and fatalities are more likely to occur to bicyclists and pedestrians. They won’t be adequately protected in the event of a problem.

As a result, there are now significantly more people who are killed or hurt while walking. Despite the fact that the number of traffic-related deaths decreased by 14% between 2007 and 2016, more people died while walking than while driving.

In the United States, there were 5,977 pedestrian fatalities in 2016. This estimate states that one death occurs every 88 minutes. More than 137,000 people were treated for non-fatal pedestrian injuries in emergency rooms nationwide in 2017.

California has more serious pedestrian injuries and fatalities than other states. In California last year, walking was to blame for 14,000 injuries and 893 fatalities.

Whether speeding or failing to yield the right-of-way, the driver’s negligence is to blame for most pedestrian accidents. These types of cases necessitate the counsel of an experienced attorney.
