According to the West Sacramento Fire Department, they need to use “jaws of life” to rescue a trapped driver that was injured after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 50 Tuesday, July 5, 2022.
According to the Firefighters, the crash occurred just before 12:00 p.m. on westbound Highway 50, west of Jefferson Boulevard.
One of the drivers was trapped inside the convertible vehicle. To remove the door and free the driver, firefighters had to use the “jaws of life,” a device to cut and pry out big pieces of metal.
The three accident victims were taken to nearby hospitals. Their health status is unknown.
The California Highway Patrol then took control of the accident scene.
Two-Vehicle Collision Statistics
The most frequent cause of serious injury in America, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, is automobile accidents. More than 2 million people suffer injuries in vehicle accidents annually.
When they are involved in an accident while driving, more than a thousand people are killed in California each year. There have been thousands of injuries. Up to 30 people were hurt in car accidents in the state every hour in 2015, claims a recent report.
A rollover can happen whenever one of the vehicles involved in an accident veers off the road. Rollover collisions frequently result in serious injuries and even fatalities.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that rollovers occur in about 3% of all vehicle accidents. About 35% of fatal passenger vehicle accidents are rollover or tip-over incidents.
Seat belts and airbags are the best safety equipment. The impact’s force will be lessened by slowing down. Data from 2014 shows that failure to use a seat belt at the time of the crash contributed to 66% of all rollover deaths.
Professionals advise drivers to take their feet off the pedals to prevent breaking their ankles and to release the steering wheel while crossing their arms over their chest to brace themselves for a rollover. You can better defend yourself and brace yourself for the blow this way.
