[07-05-2023] Unborn Child, Man, & Dog Killed Following Multi-Vehicle Collision on Highway 20A man, an unborn child, and a dog were killed after a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 20 in Sutter County on Wednesday morning, July 5, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on the westbound lanes of Highway 20, near the Wadsworth Canal Bridge, at around 8:30 a.m.

The 30-year-old male driver of a Nissan Versa was traveling east on the highway with a pregnant woman in the passenger seat and a dog in the backseat when he veered off the road and collided with a Chevy Tahoe. A Ford F150 hauling a dump trailer was behind the Tahoe and was involved in the initial collision as well.

The driver of the Nissan and his pregnant passenger were trapped in their vehicle and required extrication. The woman was brought to Adventist Health Rideout, where, tragically, her unborn child did not survive. The man was brought to Sutter Roseville Hospital but died from his injuries.

The dog also died from its injuries in Northpointe Animal Hospital. The driver of the Chevy reported minor injuries, and the occupant of the Ford was uninjured.

Alcohol was not considered a contributing factor in this incident.
