Multi-Vehicle Crash Statistics

American roads have some of the world’s worst traffic congestion. There are 280 million registered vehicles, and 227.5 million people drive daily.

At least six million people in the United States are injured or killed yearly in car accidents. Over 38,000 people die each year due to car accidents, the leading cause of death in the US.

Multi-vehicle collisions are good examples of this. A multi-vehicle collision occurs when three or more vehicles collide. A chain-reaction accident occurs when two vehicles collide on the road, causing a third vehicle to strike the first.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data shows over 13,000 fatalities in passenger car multi-vehicle collisions in just the last year. Unfortunately, they’re responsible for most car accidents.
